A contemporary stroll between the city and its river, along the quays rehabilitated in the last decade. This is one of the must-see strolls, punctuated by green areas, shops, playgrounds for children and more.

A work of true architectural prowess. The Jacques Chaban-Delmas Bridge is also a contemporary technical feat that brings a modern touch to the urban planning of the city. With a height of 77 metres, it stands out as the highest lift bridge in Europe! As night falls it lights up the ‘Port of the Moon’ to the delight of all photographers. The pylons are lit in blue at high tide and green at low tide.

The Bordeaux of the French Revolution with its famous ‘Monument aux Girondins’ ! Opposite the river, two victorious columns stand dedicated to commercial and maritime feats. To either side stand statues of the much-loved Bordelaise philosophers Montaigne and Montesquieu. The ‘Monument aux Girondins’ is composed of gushing bronze fountains with its raised column, on top of which stands the statue of Liberty Breaking its Chains. It is a tribute to the late Men and Women of Gironde who were lost during the Revolution. The square regularly hosts flea-markets, fairs and circuses.

Every day more than a thousand people pass through this hub of activity!

Its design was entrusted to the landscape gardener, Mosbach, and the architect, Jourda. It is divided into six landscapes. The Environment Gallery is characteristic of the regional soil and flora. The water garden is spectacular with its collection of water lilies and other water plants. An arboretum displays a variety of tree leaves and bark textures and magnificent greenhouses play host to Mediterranean vegetation.

The city’s oldest bridge, built in 1822 from blond stone and red brick, it spans almost 500 metres with its 17 majestic arches; as many arches, it is said, as there are letters in the name of Napoléon Bonaparte, who commissioned it.

The Environmental Civic Centre broadens perspectives on sustainable development. It combines a resource centre, an exhibition space and an exchange forum giving the public access to ideas and the means to participate actively on a daily basis

A magnificent achievement of the Enlightenment Era. The Place de la Bourse is the symbol of the opening of the city of Bordeaux to the River Garonne and the rest of the world. Today, it is a splendid backdrop for the vast 3,450 m2 Water Mirror, created in 2006, which lies facing it and is the focal point of the banks of the River Garonne.
