Take a stroll through the old mining landscapes of the Borinage region, which has since become green and idyllic landscape.
Go towards the exterior mining shaft dominating towering 100 meters high: this steel monster represents the dominance of the mining industry in the Borinage region in the 19th century. Shortly after using part of the RAVeL network, you travel through country lanes, towards Ciply, which would have represented the border between two worlds in the day: that of peasant life and that of the mining. Further on, the path winds through scrub and bushes, covering an old coal mine. At the edge, the fields and meadows lead you to small houses which seem crushed by the mass of the “Héribus” slag heap that you’ll climb. On the slope, a magnificent broom covers the slag heap: nowadays, the slag heaps have become havens of peace for an exuberant flora and fauna. You return to Frameries by taking the old railway lines through which coal once passed: they have become formidable escapades in this landscape marked by this moving industrial past.
During this hike, you actually take a section of the GR "Sentier des Terrils"
