Font d'Alagnon

Description

Short family hike in the forest of the Cirque glaciaire de Font d'Alagnon. Can be done by mountain bike, on foot or with a big-wheeled baby carriage. Below Puy Bataillouse, halfway up the slope, you can see the buron de Meije Costes (1h return).

Start - At Le Lioran station, park in the large Font d'Alagnon parking lot. At the start sign, follow signs for Font d'Alagnon. Take the road down to the left to reach the parking lot.

1 Cross the small bridge over the Alagnon, then turn right onto the Combe Nègre forest road.

2. Continue straight ahead on the Combe Nègre forest track, which rises slightly.

3. Continue on the main track, which now serves the other side of the glacial cirque.4. At this point, panoramic views of Puy du Richer (1813m) and Plomb du Cantal with its knob-shaped basalt summit (1855m).

5. At the crossroads, leave the main track and take the gravel path to the right. Go downhill and rejoin the road and the starting point.
