Boucle de la Collégiale d'Uzeste

In Uzeste stands the ancient collegiate church of Notre-Dame, the great work of Pope Clement V. The building is composite: a primitive Romanesque envelope, a 13th century nave, a small Gothic portal dedicated to the Virgin Mary (second half of the 13th century). The chevet and the choir were built in the 14th century, the bell tower erected at the end of the 15th century. The magnificent marble tomb of the Gascon pope was installed in the middle of the choir in the 19th century. The stained glass windows in the three apses of the choir, the work of the glass painters Joseph Villiet and Henri Feur, show that the whole life of the pontiff Clement is linked to Uzeste from his baptism to his burial.
