CIRCUIT DU FORT D'ILLANGE ET DE YUTZ

CIRCUIT DU FORT D'ILLANGE ET DE YUTZ
Credit : PTT - Elodie Conti

Description

"This circuit serves the Fort of Illange, crosses the forest of Haute-Yutz and offers a view on Thionville.
In 1871, Illange was annexed to the Reich. During this first annexation, as part of the Moselsellung (fortified line), a fort was built between 1905 and 1910, to prevent a possible French attack. The site could shelter nearly 1200 men and had 4 artillery pieces.
Far from the front, the fort of Illange was not directly used during the First War. It was occupied by the French army from 1919.
In 1940, it was integrated into the Maginot Line. Re-invested by the Germans, it is taken back on November 13th 1944 by the troops of colonel A. Maroun who will liberate Illange.

The path is partially equipped for people with reduced mobility."
