A beautiful mosaic of habitats: remnants of high moorland, wet meadows, etc. This nature reserve is home to over 160 plant species.
Discover the former hay meadows and peaty areas located in the valleys of the Arlune and Tordu Ruisseau. The inhabitants of the neighbouring villages extracted peat for their domestic needs. Some areas that are much less wet have probably never been exploited by man.
The site contains a number of rare plants for the Southern Ardennes: Sanguisorba officinalis, Menyanthes trifoliata, Vaccinium oxycoccos, etc. In addition, the site has a number of groupings that are not found anywhere else in the Southern Ardennes: sphagnum moss patches with cranberries, high bogs with cottongrass, seeps with characteristic plants, mugwort forests, narda and Arnica patches.
The nature reserve is home to some 30 species of birds, including some characteristic ones: red-backed warbler, spotted locust and reed bunting. Both diurnal and nocturnal birds of prey are well represented: common buzzard, sparrowhawk, grey harrier, kestrel, barn owl, tawny owl and long-eared owl.
Due to its location between the deciduous forest and the grazed meadows, and due to its composition, the site is an excellent biotope for the nesting of many birds.
There is no doubt that you will appreciate all the diversity that this walk offers !
