Description
Located in the town of Nay between Béarn and Bigorre, this tour will lead you to discover the urban development of the bastide outside the walls, linked to the Industrial Revolution. Thanks to the development of economic and manufacturing activities, the bastide of Nay rapidly expanded outside the perimeter defined by its surrounding wall.
The growth of its suburbs was due to the influx of workers and to the general enrichment (drapers first of all with the work of wool and linen, then the furniture and bell factories). Finally, large factories were built, contributing to the spread of the city.
With a good part of the route along the water, this route of the suburbs of Nay will be a destination of choice on hot days. As you walk along the Gave de Pau, which flows through the town, you will understand better where our ancestors got the energy for this industrialization.
