Le Vigan - Mandagout - Col de la Lusette - L'Espérou - Aigoual - L'Espérou - Valleraugue - Le Vigan
Well-known and feared by the region's racers, the ascent to the summit of Mont Aigoual via the Col de la Lusette has all the makings of becoming mythical, especially since the passage of the 2020 Tour de France.
The climb begins gently up to the Col des Mourèzes (D170). After Mandagout, on the D329 and especially in the last hairpin bends before Cap de Coste, you'll have to grit your teeth as the gradient rises to 15% before easing off to the Col de la Luzette. But when the weather's fine, you'll be rewarded for your effort with a breathtaking view: beyond the Pic st Loup, the entire Mediterranean coast.
From the Col de la Lusette, you can continue on to L'Espérou and begin the gentler ascent to the Mont Aigoual observatory, the highest peak in the Gard region, at 1567 m. From there, when the sky is clear, you can see ? of France, from the Alps to the Pyrenees (but always bring warm clothing when climbing to Aigoual). Catering available.
Return to Le Vigan via Valleraugue or the Col du Minier.
Electric bike recharging point in the Observatoire parking lot (bring your own cable).
