Steps

Etape 1

With your back to Saint-Alexis church, take Avenue du Général de Gaulle on your left to leave the village.

Etape 2

At the fork in the road, continue straight ahead along Rue du Parlement.

Etape 3

Go down this street and you will come to a path. Take it and follow the Dordogne on your right. Along the way, you'll pass a charming wash-house and discover a beautiful viewpoint over the river.

At the prohibition sign, continue straight ahead. The path then bends to the left.

Etape 5

At the end of the path, at the crossroads, turn left and continue straight on to the next fork.

Etape 6

Take the left-hand turning and keep going straight ahead.

At the crossroads at Lormanet, continue straight ahead.

Stay on this main path, which veers off to the left.

At the end of the path, you will come to a tarmac road (route de Challon). Turn right onto Rue du Parlement, which will take you back to your starting point.

Eglise Saint-Alexis

On the return from the First Crusade, some of the earth brought back from Palestine was spread at the highest point of the village. The church (then called Sancta Terra) was built there in the 11th century. It was this church that gave its name to the village of Sainte-Terre, located on one of the routes to Santiago de Compostela.

Sainte-Terre et la Dordogne

Lavagnac was a fishing village as far back as the 15th century. Today, professional fishermen continue to fish for migratory fish such as lampreys, shad, eels and elvers. Sainte-Terre is a small town on the banks of the River Dordogne and the capital of the lamprey, a famous fish much loved by gourmets. Take a stroll along the Dordogne, and you'll appreciate its charms, the beauty of its nature and its peace and quiet. Beautiful homes were built in the 19th century all along the road to Lavagnac on the banks of the Dordogne. In fine weather, you can take advantage of the beaches on the banks of the Dordogne.
