Vire, a charming market town, boasts age-old origins, even if a vast share of the town was rebuilt after the Allied bombings in 1944. You can nevertheless still admire the vestiges of fortifications built in the 12th century by Henry I, King of England and Duke of Normandy. Don’t forget to relish in a taste of Vire’s speciality: ‘andouille’ smoked chitterling sausage.
