The village of Agonac develops at the foot of the old castle probably built in the 10th century on a rocky cliff. The old castrum is surrounded by a wall that had four gates, including the Salseyron gate, the only one preserved, opening onto the old market square. The village is established around a rocky promontory overlooking the Beauronne valley, which in the 19th century had many mills, many of which have disappeared today.
