La Cité Scientifique

Dans un cadre naturel préservé, elle constitue un ensemble scientifique majeur. C’est un quartier-technopole qui doit son nom au campus de l’Université des sciences et technologie de Lille, avec environ 20 000 étudiants, qui y est situé. Autrefois le quartier était constitué de champs fertiles appartenant à Annappes et utilisés par les paysans des villages d’Annappes ou Ascq. De 1964 à 1967, sous l’impulsion de Guy Debeyre (recteur de l’académie de Lille et adjoint au maire de Lille), a été créé sur 200 hectares le campus scientifique d’Annappes accueillant les nouveaux locaux de la faculté des Sciences, autrefois située dans le centre de Lille. À la fin des années 1990 est construit le laboratoire central de l’Institut d’électronique de microélectronique et de nanotechnologie. Au début des années 2000 sont construits de nouveaux bâtiments : le SUP-SUAIO, le restaurant universitaire Charles Barrois, le SH3 et le laboratoire d’Informatique Fondamentale de Lille. La Cité Scientifique accueille aujourd’hui sur 110 hectares (280 000m² construits) : l’Université Lille 1 dont 2 écoles d’ingénieurs (Polytech’Lille et Télécom Lille 1) et 2 instituts (IUT A et CUEEP) ; l’École Centrale de Lille ; l’École Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Lille ; l’Institut français des sciences et technologies des transports, de l’aménagement et des réseaux Lille Villeneuve d’Ascq et des équipements sportifs de haut niveau.
