The monumental tower, which gave its name to the site, can be seen from almost anywhere along the route. The commune of Hautefage is famous for its church with a fortified bell tower to which a round turret is attached. This building dominates a hill in the Pays de Serres, squeezed between the valleys of the Tancanne, Lestaque and Lajasse. Since the end of the Middle Ages, it has been a place of pilgrimage renowned throughout the kingdom of France. The water of the spring flows from the choir of the church, crosses it and comes out to the west in a fountain. It had the power to cure sterility. Anne de Beaujeu, daughter of Louis XI, gave birth to a daughter after her visit to Hautefage. The village, benefiting from the manna provided by tourism at the time, owes its existence to this fountain.
