A great day's ride through the Bastides region to visit the Bastides of Beaumont du Périgord and Molières, as well as the abbeys of Cadouin and Saint Avit Sénieur!
The little "plus": a picnic lunch in the gardens of Cadouin Abbey, which allows horses and riders to eat in this relaxing setting.
The bastides, from the Occitan bastida (construction) of the Périgord, correspond to a new type of town that was created between the 12th and 14th centuries. In contrast to the medieval habitat generally grouped around the church or the castle, the bastide was more like a Roman city, organized around a central administrative and commercial square.
