On the edge of a vertiginous cliff, Domme " Most beautiful villages of France " offers an exceptional panorama on the valley of the Dordogne. Surrounded by ramparts, the 19th century bastide recounts a tumultuous past illustrated by its fortified gates and towers which were used as a prison by the Templars at the beginning of the 14th century and then by French and English soldiers during the Hundred Years War. At the beginning of the 14th century, Philippe Le Bel abolished the Templar order. Some knights of the neighbouring commanderies were then locked up in the bastide. Their prison, the Gate of the Towers, keeps the memory of these years of captivity.
