Sentier de la Résistance

Description

In Dordogne, the paths tell stories... Here in Bassillac, at the gates of Périgueux, evocations of the Resistance are spread out all along the path situated around an old maquis camp, the "Mercédès camp". It consists of thirteen sculptures, on stone and wood, installed all along the old loop of the summits. At the entrance to the path, "Ami, entends-tu le cri sourd d'un pays qu'on enchaîne" (Friend, can you hear the muffled cry of a country that is being chained up) was the hymn of the French resistance during the German occupation and then a sign of recognition during the maquis.
The Dordogne department, which belonged to region 5, is one of the metropolitan departments that liberated themselves. Nice weather for Mercedes is the radio message broadcasted by London announcing the parachuting
of men and weapons to Bassillac on 14 July 1944. They contributed to the liberation of Périgueu
