On March 15, 1943, a camp of Secret Army maquisards from the Neuvic-Lapleau unit was set up in a rock shelter in the steep Dordogne gorges. Despite difficult access, the camp was flushed out by Vichy police in 1944. In memory of the maquisards, this tour takes you to one of their most inaccessible hideouts in the Dordogne gorges. Departure: Beunac, Saint-Merd-de-Lapleau. Duration: 2 hrs. Distance: 4.3 km. Signs: blue. Difficulty: difficult (beware, access to the cave is difficult [climbing] and not recommended in wet weather. Narrow, unsecured cave overhanging a cliff). To view the tour in 3D, go to: rando-millevaches.fr
