Boucle de Pierre Loti

The name Flaujagues means "here the water lies" (it is a reference to the mythical wave of the Mascaret, which ends its course at this place) Located on the left bank of the Dordogne, Flaujagues is known for its port having known an important traffic during the past centuries. The superbly preserved slipway, dating from the beginning of the 19th century, with its main quay and two inclined launching ramps, is a testimony to this. The village is inseparable from the name of Pierre Loti, a famous writer and traveler who married a local girl (Blanche Franc de Ferrière). The author liked to escape to this place to write and draw his inspiration. A bench, where he liked to practice the contemplation, even inherited his name. Flaujagues also has a church, dedicated to Saint-Martin, which dates back to the 17th century and which has been restored during the 19th and 20th centuries.
