From the border village of Arnéguy, this route perfectly reflects the transhumance of the herds from the valleys to the mountains. The first part is very shady thanks to the mixed forests at the bottom of the valley, and passes through farmhouses, allowing the climb to begin gradually. With the first beeches, the beautiful borders of Ibarrola illustrate the intermediate zone, once frequented by the herds in early spring and late autumn. Just before the Beillurti huts, areas of peat bogs are found alongside the first summer pastures. These mountain pastures take on a different dimension around the Hegantza pass. From there, we switch to the Nive d'Arnéguy valley with a remarkable view of the Navarrese village of Valcarlos.
