The story behind this title is a terrible episode of the Hundred Years' War: the massacre of 234 inhabitants of Mons-en-Montois, burned alive in the church. This event brings us back to 10 June 1944, when 642 inhabitants of Oradour-sur-Glane were massacred.
This hike offers panoramic views of Brie.
1- Walk up the Rue de l'église opposite the town hall, then take the path to the left and street to the right. Take the second road on the left, Rue du Clos Bouard. Turn right to return to the road.
2- Enter Donnemarie-Dontilly. Take the second street on the right, Rue Salgues. Walk up to the right on Rue de la Maladrerie then turn left on Boulevard du Nord. Turn right on Chemin des Grottes.
3- On the plateau, at the crossroads, turn left. Follow the path to the grove. After the grove, turn left to enter the woods. Take the path on the right. It exits the woods, crosses through the fields and then a wooded area. After the wooded area, turn right. Follow the road to the right. Walk along the woods.
4- Take the road to the right. At the crossroads, turn left onto Petit-Cessoy, then right on the path that leads a little further down the road. Follow it down to the left and, before the fountain, walk up the path to the right. Turn left, cross D75 and, at the fork, follow the road to the left. Enter Cessoy-en-Montois, take the Rue de l’Eglise opposite, Rue de la Mairie on the right and Rue de la Vallée on the right, continue 20 m. Continue left on Rue aux Chevaux. When you exit the village, walk down to the right along the wash house. After 150 m, continue to the right, cross a stream.
5- Go left along D62. One km further on, it crosses a path on top of the hill. Take the path to the right and then follow the one to the left and the next left to the woods.
Turn onto the second path on the right. Enter the woods, turn left, then right out of the woods.
6- Take the road on the left for a few meters to walk up into the woods on the right. By the road, walk down to the right, cross the crossroads and then turn left. After 200m, take the path on the right. It leads to the street that passes near the town hall of Mons-en-Montois on the left.
• Do not leave the marked paths.
• If there are any doubts regarding which path to take, markings take precedence over the description.
• Respect nature and private property.
• Don't litter.
• Avoid routes during hunting season (check with the town halls or the Seine-et-Marne hunting federation).
• Close gates and fences after you.
• Whenever possible, remove any obstacles from the path.
