This hike will let you discover both sides of this territory: the hills in the northern Montois with its exceptional viewpoints and the ponds of Bassée in the south, formed by gravel mining, now a rich wetland environment for the flora and fauna.
• Do not leave the marked paths.
• If there are any doubts regarding which path to take, markings take precedence over the description.
• Respect nature and private property.
• Don't litter.
• Avoid routes during hunting season (check with the town halls or the Seine-et-Marne hunting federation).
• Close gates and fences after you.
• Whenever possible, remove any obstacles from the path.
1- Go up the street opposite the post office - Rue de la Poste.
Take the 2nd street on the right, Rue de la Pâturotte, which becomes a grassy path. At the crossroads, enter the undergrowth.
After the woods, turn left (Rue des Marais, not mentioned at the start) to a square (fountain and wash house).
Turn right (rue des Fontaines, not mentioned there), then right again until you get to the county road.
2- Take the dirt road opposite that becomes a sunken path.
Walk past the path on the left and continue up to the ridge between the Seine valley on the left and the valley of Ru de Suby on the right (360° panorama).
3- Continue straight up the ridge (walking past a path leading down to the right and another to the left). At the woods, turn left onto the sunken path. Ignore a path to the left and walk straight down to Le Plessis.
4- Turn right on Rue du Plessis which turns left at the crossroads to cross the entire hamlet. At the pond, make a left-right and continue to D18 (passing a path through the fields on the left).
5- Cross the departmental road (be careful!) and take the stony trail. Cross the railroad tracks. Walk past a path through the undergrowth to the left, walk past the houses, then turn left onto a wide forest path (at the crossroads, 30 m to the right, view of a pond).
Coming out of the wood, walk around a pond. At the field level, take a path to the right which leads along the hedge, turn right and then to the left towards Châtenay.
6- In the village, turn right on Rue de la Vieille Seine and continue to D75. Take it to the right to cross the river and turn left towards the ponds. Follow the stony path to the right then very quickly the one on the left that runs between two ponds.
7- At the fork, turn left, walk around the pond (several views of the pond). 1200m further on, turn right, cross the railroad track and then take a path through the undergrowth. Crossing the Old Seine (footbridge) and continue back up a wide pathway to the entrance to Châtenay. Continue straight to return to the church.
