Facing the ramparts of Puycelsi, an orchard unlike any other welcomes and carefully preserves the most hardy species of fruit and vines... A true genetic reservoir and precious guardian of forgotten flavours.
The conservatory of ancient fruit species and vines:
They were known in the past and the countryside was full of them in their orchards, but today, a certain number of fruit and vine varieties are disappearing. This is why the Department of the Tarn created the conservatory in 1986. The actions carried out aim to implement the environmental policy linked to the preservation of biological diversity and are part of a sustainable development approach. The collection plots, installed on 6 ha, house varieties of apple trees, pear trees, plum trees, cherry trees, peach trees and old local and regional vines that are under threat. Currently, more than 800 fruit tree introductions and 102 varieties for a total of 4,000 trees and 550 vines are planted. The conservatory's mission is to safeguard this biological heritage, to identify it, to evaluate it and to develop it on an educational, economic and scientific level.
