Maison départementale de la forêt de Sivens, 11 km northwest of Gaillac: access via the D 999 and the D 132.
A biotic massif:
In 1976, the Sivens forest massif was bought from the Houillères du Bassin du Centre et du Midi by the Department of Tarn. This 620-hectare estate became a hunting reserve in 1978. This animal and plant bonanza was recognised as a natural zone of ecological, faunistic and floristic interest (ZNIEFF). At Sivens, the intervener is keen to show the good side of his actions in an environment that he wants to be biotic. The forestry operation uses simple coppice, coppice under fir and regular fir. On the animal side, small carnivores are favoured and limit the rodent population. The variety of plants attests to the great diversity of ecological conditions in Sivens, whose atmosphere differs from the surrounding area.
