On the borders of the municipalities of Estérençuby and Lecumberry, the Irau mountain surrounds a deep valley known by solitary fishermen. Reaching the ridges seems at first sight tedious, the Irau peak being bristling with imposing cliffs and remains enigmatic as to its access. Optimistically, we leave the cool morning air of the Ezterengibel valley to gain height in a magnificent beech forest. Past the isolated edges, the path becomes playful, it gains the secret terraces and slips between the rocky spurs of the eastern side of the massif, finally quite docile. Then follows a balcony path with a mountainous character, the sudden exit to the Irau pastures and a remarkable viewpoint at the top of a suspended plateau with the appearance of Scottish highlands.
