Mussidan was ideally situated between Périgueux, Bergerac, Bordeaux and Ribérac, at the crossroads of several pedestrian and river routes.
Its position on the Isle River provided the motive force for the current, then electricity for its machines.
Using local know-how, craftsmen became dynamic entrepreneurs. They invented new systems, registered patents and developed their workshops into specialized factories.
The town modernized rapidly, expanding with the arrival of factory workers and becoming a small industrial area between 1860 and 1970.
Don't believe us? Join Dorie on the trail of the remains of "industrious Mucidan", as it was known in the 19th century, and meet the people who witnessed this era.
