Étape 1
Deux possibilités : Avant de tournez à droite, vous apercevez sur votre gauche St Goewaert ( Gohart), à qui est dédié la chapelle, était un moine bavarois qui serait venu prêcher vers l’an 1000 à Arnéke à l’époque de la seconde évangélisation de la région. Il fait l’objet d’une dévotion particulièrement tenace ( voir le circuit ‘ Le duyvelinne Veld’ ) et est invoqué contre les rhumatismes, la sciatique, les maladies inflammatoires, fléaux pour les randonneurs, ainsi que pour la préservation des bêtes à cornes …. ou Continuez tout droit jusqu’au canal de l’Aa puis le longer en prenant à droite. Sur l’autre rive on est dans le Pas de Calais. Une longue promenade s’offre à vous le long du canal ( Deux vis d’Archimède permettent d’évacuer les eaux drainées par les fossés en les relevant au même niveau que l’Aa voisin)
Étape 2
Quittez l’Aa en tournant à droite. A nouveau, vous longez un fossé, élément caractéristique de ce secteur longtemps marécageux. A votre droite, se dresse la Montagne de Watten chapeautée par son moulin et la tour de l’ancienne abbaye.
Étape 3
Ce lieu-dit sur lequel veille une vieille chapelle en briques datant de 1828 porte le joli nom de ‘ La fleur des champs ‘ . Traversez prudemment la route et continuez tout droit.
Étape 4
Passez la première route et tournez à droite dans le chemin de terre, ancienne voie ferrée reliant Watten à Mardyck. Désaffectée, elle permet aujourd’hui un agréable cheminement, étant, sur certains tronçons, bordée de haies ou d’arbres. Un gazoduc, en provenance de Norvège suit également ce tracé. Tout de suite après le petit fossé, à la première petite bifurcation, prenez à droite.
Étape 5
Traversez la route et continuez sur le chemin. A votre gauche, vous distinguez la crête de Merckeghem, dominée par son château d’eau. Puis arrivé au croisement , tournez à droite et rejoignez la route départementale que vous suivez jusqu’au village .
