Sentiers du Steinbaechlein à Morschwiller-le-Bas

You can park your car in the multi-purpose hall of Morschwiller-le-Bas. A playground for children and public benches are available.

The path follows a passage at the back of the sports complex near two small fishing ponds. This well-preserved place is quiet and rural, and the frogs have a field day! You pass by a beautiful, well-preserved washhouse before arriving at the Steinbaechlein pond.

Crossing the river. We are at the end of the Belfort gap, the southern gateway to Alsace. After the bridge on the right, the path follows the stream and allows you to see a small weir on the left. The Steinbaechlein is a diversion of the Doller and its crystal clear water from the Vosges made the prosperity of the Mulhouse textile industry (DMC, etc.). Cross the road when you come to it.

Hardwood forest. On both sides of the path, 4 bunkers in very good condition dating from the 1st World War. These German bunkers at the rear of the front from the Vieil Armand to the Swiss border defended the immediate surroundings of Mulhouse.

At the Rohrberg, follow the blue triangle path for 100 metres to the top of the hill called Hintergraben. From there, you will have a magnificent panorama of the Vosges (Grand Ballon, Rossberg, valleys of Guebwiller, Thann and Masevaux), Jura and the Belfort gap, Black Forest with the Blauen and Belchen massifs. On a clear day, you can even have a breathtaking view of the Bernese Alps (Jungfrau massif).

After the viewpoint, retrace your steps and take the red ring path back to Morschwiller through beautiful orchards and quiet streets at the entrance to the village.

The route follows some streets of the old centre of Morschwiller lined with some typical Alsatian houses. It passes in particular by the fire station.

Before reaching the starting point, admire on the left a superb covered washhouse rehabilitated by the commune over the Steinbaechlein.
