Discover a city created by Vauban.
Starting from the Staedly leisure area, drive to the centre of Roeschwoog, then on to Roppenheim for a visit to the 16th century church, the exteriors of the presbytery, the tithe barn and the adjoining town hall. The road lined with fruit trees will take you across fields to Neuhaeusel and then to the Rhine riverside. Follow the Rhine to Fort-Louis. The layout of the village was designed by the famous architect of Louis XIV's fortifications.
Note that all the streets are straight and intersect at right angles. This model, instigated by Vauban during the second half of the 16th century, served as a basis for the great cities of the United States of America. Take the time to walk around the fortress and immerse yourself in this place steeped in history thanks to the information panels. Leaving Fort Louis in the direction of Roeschwoog, observe on both sides of the road fortification elements hidden under the vegetation. Arriving in Roeschwoog, you can visit the church built at the beginning of the 18th century in a baroque style, unique for the area.
