A forty-kilometer cycling circuit along the little-traveled roads of the Valromey valley at the foot of the Grand Colombier.
Cycling along the back roads of the Valromey, you'll discover waterfalls, geological curiosities and unusual villages at the foot of the mythical Grand Colombier pass.
This tour can be done on a road bike simply to enjoy the magnificent surrounding natural scenery, or on a mountain bike or VTC to explore in greater detail some of the geological and heritage sights that can be reached by deviating slightly from the route. With a positive difference in altitude of over 700m, spread out over the first half of the route, this loop is quite sporty.
In order, you'll discover :
- The pretty village of Talissieu.
- The hamlet of Vaux-Morets, with its oven, wash-house and unusual houses.
- A short detour of 800 m, partly on carriage roads, takes you to the Groin spring, an impressive geological curiosity at Vaux-Morets. (Not recommended for road bikes).
- In the small village of Chongnes, a slight detour of 200 m, also on carriage roads, takes you to the fountain and chapel of l'Adoue, a soothing spot that inspired the poet Paul Claudel.
- The village of Vieu, an ancient Roman vicus, with its 11th-century church.
- Champagne-en-Valromey, with its restaurant, bakery, Thursday morning market, campsite, accommodation and shops.
- The village of Lochieu, with its Musée du Bugey-Valromey and Accueil Vélo label.
- Le Pain de Sucre, a waterfall and curious 6-metre-high conical stalagmite, accessible on foot by steps for less than 30 metres (a detour recommended even for cyclists with car pedals).
- The village of Songieu and its Sully lime tree, a remarkable 6.90-meter circumference tree next to the church (50-meter detour).
- The village of Hotonnes, with its 12th-century church and convenience store.
- Bassieu, Lilignod, Passin.
- The Gorges de Thurignin, accessible by carriageway from the "gare de Vieu" by a 1 km detour. (Not recommended for road bikes).
- Champdossin, Massignieu-de-Belmont and its vineyards.
- The Cerveyrieu waterfall, visible from the eponymous hamlet a few hundred metres from Artemare. You can make a detour to admire the waterfall from above, as well as a beautiful panorama (not recommended for road bikes).
- The village of Artemare, where the Séran flows, with its restaurants, campsite and shops.

It is possible to travel with a pet transported in a luggage unit. But while it's tempting to consider running your dog alongside your bike, this won't be possible, as the route is shared with motor traffic.
