You set off from the pretty little village of Cescau to reach the chapel of St-Michel de Loutrein (listed site), with its panoramic views of the high Castillonnais mountains and villages.
Park in the car park at the bottom of the village of Cescau (play area and wash-house).

1/ Cescau car park 0 h 550 m
On leaving the car park, turn left after the wash-house. Go up the lane, then right below the church. Turn left after the fountain, then right at the next fountain. The track soon twists and turns. Turn right at the first fork.
Continue to the right at the next crossroads and leave the track 50 m further on the left. The climb is tough until you reach a fork in the road. Further on you'll come to a track, and on the left you'll come to a barn and the first fork in the road.
2/ Col d'Espiau 0 h50 760 m
Go left alongside the barn and change direction completely. After passing through the ferns, leave the flat path and descend to the right. You will come across the villages of Arrout and Engomer. The descent becomes steeper until you reach
3/ village of Loutrein 1 h 25 605 m
Turn left and then right to go back up to the chapel of St MIchel.
4/ To return, go back to the crossroads and follow the track on the right as it descends steeply. Go straight ahead at the next junction and you will come to a clear road.
5/ The tarmac road 1 h55 530 m
Go left and then left again at the next crossroads to reach the village of Cescau.
6/ The village of Cescau 2 hrs 20 mins 550 m

From Castillon, take the D4 towards Saint-GIrons for a few hundred metres, then the D404 to the right towards Cescau. Park at the bottom of the village in the car park near the wash-house and play area.
