The Path of Dame Fines

Description

This route offers walkers the chance to explore the Dadou valley from the 280m-high, once-fortified village. Situated on a bank of poudingues in the molasse, the site is set in the middle of a vast natural cirque.

The village was founded in 1246 by Dame Fines Alaman on the site of the
Castel de Puech Buégo, which means hill (puech) of Bégon.
The village's strategic location, which enabled it to keep watch over the main routes, and its economic development attracted the envy of many lords.
Three points of interest mark out the route: the chapel of St-Martin de Grizac, now desecrated (point 4), the hill of St-Sigismond overlooking Briatexte and the Dadou valley with its magnificent viewpoint (point 5). Finally, the 16th-century chapel of Ste-Cécile de Mouribal, near the village of Busque (point 7).
