This bastide was founded on 28 June 1270 by Alphonse de Poitiers, to create a line of defence against the English. Although the Hundred Years' War and the Wars of Religion did not spare Eymet, evidence of the Middle Ages is still largely present:
-The square surrounded by arcaded houses has recently been renovated. One can admire old medieval houses where stone walls and half-timbering alternate
-Of the castle, there are only a few remains but the 13th century keep is still very impressive with its turret and its walls
The church built in the last century is composed of a bell tower in the front, a long nave flanked by side aisles and a polygonal chevet
Do not miss the Romanesque bridge over the Dropt
In the vicinity of the village, the countryside is dotted with castles, manors, dovecotes, mills and Romanesque churches.
