Pêcher au Grand Etang de La Jemaye - Sentier du tour de l'étang

Description

The ponds of La Jemaye were created in the 15th century by monastic communities who, by practicing fish farming, had a safe and sustainable food resource. Surrounded by the forest of the Double, partly replanted with pines in the 19th century to fight against stagnant water and malaria, the ponds attract many animal species, the most emblematic of which is the cistude turtle, which you may be able to contemplate from the observatory set up on the discovery path. The Grand Etang de La Jemaye was acquired by the Department, which manages the tourist activity while preserving the environment within the framework of the Sensitive Natural Areas. With free access, it offers a swimming area supervised in season, play areas for children and many outdoor activities. There are also fun walking maps available (for children aged 4 to 12).
