Circuit l'Ain à vélo n° 15 - Cavets and yellow bellies

Paysage du Revermont

Description

Another story of ancestral conflict, of the cultural differences that make up the charm of our gentle provinces... If Revermont dominates Bresse, it's more for the geomorphology of its landscapes than for its level of wealth.

Overlooking the Bresse plain to the east, Revermont is the first southern foothill of the Jura Mountains. While its history is closely linked to that of the
Bresse, the Revermontois differs from the Bressan in many ways: farming traditions and practices, habitat and language... Vines were once the main crop in the Revermont. Each stone house was built over a cellar on the first floor. This is probably the origin of the nickname "cavet" given to the people of Revermont. For the Bressan, "le cavet serait plus habitué de sa cave que du vrai labeur"! In retort, the Bressan was dubbed "yellow belly", or "corn eater". Another explanation would be a feeling of jealousy on the part of the poorer inhabitants of Revermont towards the wealthier Bressans, in particular
the maquignons who hid gold coins in their belts on cattle fair days!

The Loops de l'Ain à vélo are currently being redesigned, and a new signposting system will be in place once the changes are complete.

La Boutique à Fromages - Treffort wishes to bring the best of products to our customers, that's why we want to select cheeses as close as possible to our home; by valuing the local productions. As far as the flagship product of our store is concerned: the Comté AOP. From the youngest (4 to 5 months of maturing) to the fruity (8 to 10 months of maturing) the choice to work with the predecessor was obvious. This is how our collaboration with the Fromageries du Revermont in Balanod (39) has lasted since the beginning of the adventure. In order to satisfy the majority of our customers, La Boutique à Fromages - Treffort works in partnership with the Scté Rivoire et Jacquemin based in Montmorot (39), for more typical Comté cheeses that can be matured for the end of the year up to 30 months. The Revermont and its surroundings are full of small producers of goat cheese, which allow us to stock our shelves with different types of tastes and textures. Find in the heading "at the moment..." the products selected for a period. The delicatessen section is constantly changing and is always enriched with more gustatory discoveries. Teas and infusions : Les jardins de l'Hermitage in Valence (26) Fruit coulis: Alp fruits in Excenevex (74) Artisanal olive oil : Lépine Claude in Viriat (01) Dry cookies and jams : Douceurs Comtoises in Cousance (39) Honeys and products of the hive : le rucher du Revermont in Treffort (01)
