Lagarde is an ancient walled village founded at the beginning of the XIVth century by the overlord of Mirepoix.
For more than half a millenium, the primitive fortified castle underwent numerous transformations. With the severity of a medieval fortress, the charm of a renaissance castle and the magnificence of a XVIIth century palace, the home of the Mirepoix Lévis reflects in its imposing ruins the evolution of high quality achitecture through the ages.
Lagarde and its castle remained at the very heart of Mirepoix's seigniory up until the Revolution.
Plaine de Magdelaine :
The church of Sainte-Marie-Madeleine was said to be on the Plaine de Magdelaine. It is recorded from 943, but no archives make any mantion of it from the XVIth century. As of today it has disappeared completely.
