In front of the sign, go left on the small tarmac road along the cemetery. 400m further on, turn left on a small grassy path.

Villefranche du Périgord is a beautiful bastide dating from the 13th century, located on the borders of Périgord, Quercy and Haut-Agenais. This hike will lead you around the bastide through the cultivation and woods of chestnut trees, passing by the "Domaine de Rapatel" specialized in the cultivation and transformation of this fruit.

Dedicated to St John the Baptist, the church was originally of Romanesque style (there is still a Romanesque choir). It has a polychrome 18th century altarpiece. Mazeyrolles is halfway between Villefranche du Périgord and Monpazier. It was the scene of great battles during the wars of religions, where Catholics and Protestants of Villefranche and Monpazier met in a square called "the camp of Boulet".

Saint Clair de Fontenilles Church: feast day on June 1st Romanesque church, damaged during the Hundred Years' War. Destroyed in 1593, to fortify against the League the small manor opposite, commandery of the Hospitallers of St John. Restored in 1671, then in the 19th and late 20th centuries.

The parish church is the former seigniorial chapel . Notice the 2 painted wooden angels (13th century) listed as Historic, a baptismal basin decorated with the insignia of the Templars, a stoup(10th century) sculpted with a fleur-de-lys as well as an altarpiece and a stone high altar. Following the valley of the Templa, you may see the Fountain called "of the three bishops", an old wash-house and the ruins of a watchtower of the templars .

Born and bred in Villefranche du Perigord, Jean Troussel (1861 - 1944) collected old abandonned and dated tools due to technological evolution, as well as stones from local environment. This origininal collection was completed by this daughter, Helen August.
