The footpath is 2 km long and is situated on the largest island in the Vienne river. During the walk you will discover the marks of man on the island, as well as its natural riches. It is an easy walk interspersed with interactive panels unveiling the secrets of this part of the island, and maybe the chance to see the white-throated dipper, visible during their migration in autumn and winter. Today, the island belongs to the Communauté de Communes and two farms have been set up here with market gardening, cattle. The trail starts upstream of the island. On leaving Saint-Junien, the car park is on the left, on the Route Nationale 141.

Walk along the Vienne River and discover three of the four ancient bridges that enabled and still enable the inhabitants of our region to cross the natural obstacle that is the Vienne. Dating from the 12th to the 19th century, these bridges are more than just functional; they are relics of the past and an integral part of our local heritage.

A 100% Saint-Juniaude loop to discover some of the glove-making town?s most emblematic sites. Along the way, you'll find the Saint-Amand terraces, where you can stroll along the remains of the 11th-century church, and the 13th-century Saint-Elisabeth bridge. Discover a circuit between the rivers Glane and Vienne, nature and memory. This route, punctuated by hills and descents, won't leave you with the monotony of a traditional bike ride. Thanks to electric assistance, you can overcome obstacles and stroll through a natural setting typical of the Limousin, land of trees and water. This is a long tour, to be completed over the course of a day if you also wish to visit the Centre de la Mémoire and the martyred village.

Discover Rochechouart by road. Relax in the heart of nature and stroll through a landscape shaped by meteorites, in the Rochechouart-Chassenon astrobleme nature reserve. Rochechouart is also home to a number of historical and cultural monuments, including the Château Musée d'Art Contemporain, as well as a number of restaurants. Along the way, you'll be able to take in many views of the Limousin countryside.

The Richard Coeur de Lion West cycling loop takes in the rolling roads of western Limousin, in Haute-Vienne, in 4 stages and 10 sections. You'll cycle along the Voie Verte des Hauts de Tardoire and the V56 and V93 cycle routes. You'll visit the villages of Châlus, Rochechouart and Nexon, with their castles on the Richard the Lionheart discovery route. You'll pass through Limoges, the city with the largest concentration of services and facilities, and then the small villages where life is good, such as Oradour-sur-Vayres, Saint-Martin-de- Jussac, Saint-Priest-sous-Aixe, Aixe-sur-Vienne and Saint-Hilaire-les-Places. You can cycle this loop at your own pace, in sections, stages or all at once, depending on your mood and your cycling skills.

The "Circuit aux portes de la Charente" takes you through the Limousin countryside to discover its natural (streams and ponds) and architectural (fountains) heritage. Don't miss Rochechouart and its castle overlooking the Graine valley. Option to shorten the tour.

Discover the remarkable trees of the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord-Limousin. Leaving Rochechouart, head for the commune of Chéronnac, where the source of the river Charente is located. 1.5 kilometers further on, take a bend in the road to discover the exceptional natural site of Peyrassoulat and the Tardoire, home to multi-century-old trees. On the way back, cross the village of Biennac and its 13th-century church, and walk to the majestic Bramefan oak, measuring 4.60 m in circumference.

Leaving Rochechouart, drive towards Chéronnac, home to the source of the Charente! Follow its course to the Videix lake for a refreshing break. Pass through Saint-Gervais and see the buildings made of impactite stone, a rock formed by the fusion of meteorite (which crashed over 200 million years ago) and local minerals. In the hamlet of Pers, you'll find a stork well. Back in Rochechouart, you'll cross La Graine on the Roc du B?uf Roman bridge. This tour passes through part of the Périgord-Limousin Regional Nature Park.

These trails give you the chance to discover the secrets of this unique French impact crater, as well as the fauna and flora around Boischenu lake. The old part of the village sits atop the left bank of the Vienne river with the church at its centre and a little square dedicated to Frédéric Mistral, a French writer of the 19th century. The austere exterior of St Saturnin church is in complete contrast to the beauty of its internal architecture. The south chapel is a good example of Limousin gothic art and it contains some remarkable 15th century frescoes. It has exceptional acoustics, making it an excellent venue for concerts, and many recordings are made here for national use. Enjoy a walk along the waymarked footpath ‘le chemin du héron’, stop at the restaurant ‘Le Village’ next to the lake or you could even go bowling.

Enjoy a magnificent view from the upper terrace, accessible via a path from the main road. From here, the panorama stretches all the way to the Vienne river and the viaduct, built in 1874 to allow passage of the Limoges-Angoulême line.

The hermit Amand settled on the banks of the Vienne, near a ford, to live in prayer. He was joined in 500 by Junien, and the two of them went on to help travelers cross the ford. When he died, Amand was buried near his hermitage. In the 11th century, his grave was found, and a church was built over it. In the 16th century, the Récollet brothers took possession of the site, which had become dilapidated. The abbey was rebuilt to include a church, refectory and monastic cells. During the French Revolution, the entire property was sold to Sieur Bernard, a miller, who in turn sold it to Sieur Périgord, sub-prefect of Rochechouart. The latter demolished the buildings and used the materials to build retaining walls, giving the abbey its fortified appearance. Today, only the north transept remains, and gardens have been laid out.

The Saint-Elisabeth bridge spans the Glane River. It is located on the former salt road connecting Lyon to the Atlantic Ocean. Built in the 13th century this bridge is made of cutting stones and of 3 pointed arcs.

The Chapel of Notre Dame du Pont: The chapel dates back to the 10th century. It was extended thanks to King Louis XI in the 15th century in the late gothic style. It was restored at the end of the 19th century. The chapel is not open to the public, apart from the “Journées du Patrimoine” (National Heritage days) in mid-September. The front of the Chapel was fully renovated in 2013, and points of architectural interest include the door with sculpted coats of arms, adorned with an arch brace, pinnacles and a Rose window.

The Bridge Notre Dame dates back to 13th century. It is made of 6 pointed archs separated by pointed cutwaters with refuges upstream of the Vienne River. A sculpted lamb can be seen on the Bridge.

The Ile de Chaillac is the largest island on the Vienne, measuring 3 kilometers long and 300 meters wide. Two loops enable you to discover its wealth of flora and fauna.

This house dates back to 16th century. It used to belong to a Consul of the town. Napoleon who was passing through Saint-Junien slept there in 1807. The façade of the house has been recently restored. You can admire the beautiful sculpted heads on the cornices.

The Church of Saint-Junien is one of the biggest and oldest romanesque churches in Limousin. There used to be an episcopal house and a monastery around the church but they no longer exist. It was built of granite in 4 stages, from the 11th century to the 13th century. The original plan has always been respected, however, it does carry the influence of the artistic periods it went through, from the romanesque through to the gothic period. Inside the church, don't miss : The tomb of Junien made out of lime is beautifully sculpted. It was made in the 12th century. Three sides of the tomb represent sculptures which refer to the fresco of the nave. An interesting series of little statues from the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. An enamel shrine from the 13th century. The Saint-Martial chapel and the burial scene: this chapel was offered by the priest Formier at the end of the 15th century. The statues of the burial scene were beheaded during the French Revolution except for Saint-Jean. The Christ lying on a tomb. The other statues represent the Virgin Mary , Saint-Jean , three other holy women and two carriers : Joseph d’Arimathie and Nicomède. Christ on the cross : dates back to the 12th century and recently renovated . The Saint-Junien statue: the statue dates back to the 19th century and represents Saint-Junien slaying a dragon . It was offered by the parishioners in 1896.
