Set in a haven of peace, the church at Veyrines is one of the very few churches in the Haut-Vivarais to have preserved its medieval architecture, dating from the 12th century in a pure Romanesque style. The building has been listed as a historic monument since 1939.

The sanctuary and its Gallo-Roman walls enclose the keep and the ancient buildings of Ay Castle, as well as the chapel. The latter houses a Black Madonna with Child dating from the 17th century - listed statue.

According to legend, a shepherdess fell into the water. As she fell, she shouted "Aie! Our Lady! Aie!". An invisible hand stopped her fall and she was saved. Hence the name given to the river and the site.

In the Massif Central, the term "suc" refers to a rocky peak, whether volcanic or not. The Suc de Vent, like its neighbours, is not volcanic. At the top of the Suc de Vent, occupied by an antenna, you can enjoy a partial panorama.

Forested areas interspersed with deep valleys carved out by the river Ay, this area has managed to preserve a touch of mystery and offers some stunning views. The old beech forests, chirats and streams are home to some remarkable flora and fauna. The Hautes Vallées de la Cance et de l'Ay are classified as a Sensitive Natural Area.
