Lanterne des Morts

Lanterne des Morts
Lanterne des Morts

Description

The lantern of the dead is the oldest cross in Antigny, it stands on the village square. The lamp, placed in its upper part, was probably mounted by a person who had to climb the hollow column. Holes are still visible in the stone to support the feet. In 1854, the lantern is very dilapidated. Around 1880, it was completely dismantled and reassembled. On this occasion, it was probably moved slightly from its original location. Indeed, it was probably built in the center of the old cemetery. Its last restoration dates back to 1909.
It was classified as a Historic Monument in 1884.
