The National Natural Reserve of Hettange-Grande was created in 1985 in order to protect a unversal geological heritage site. Thanks to the many 200 million-year-old fossils discovered on the site, it was selected to be the world reference for the early Jurassic Era. The site is also a protected area for many animals, birds, reptiles, bats and insects. This site is open to visitors providing the rules are followed. The information from the visitors' center, the learning tours organised by environment educators, and the discovery trail are all easy ways to get to know our heritage.
