Dressés au néolithique comme limites du territoire, comme stèles commémoratives ou encore comme borne astronomique, les menhirs n'ont pas encore livré tous leurs secrets. Les mégalithes ont donné lieu à de nombreuses légendes. Ainsi, la pierre de Beaumirault serait l'un des graviers lancés par Gargantua.
