Chapel of Leÿ

Chapel of Leÿ

Description

It was founded in 1662 by Claude Bailly, a notary from Leÿ.

In 1837, it was restored thanks to a bequest from Jean François Leyat, hence the inscription "JFL 1837".
In 1868, the villagers joined forces to buy a chalice, which they now owned. Previously, they had built a bell tower, with a bell that was rung three times a day for the Angelus, and the altarpiece depicted the angel Gabriel announcing to Mary that she would be the mother of the Savior.

A special feature of this chapel is that the side windows are hidden by shutters. A final restoration was carried out in 1939.

In 2008, Raymond Blanc donated paintings to the chapel, including copies of works by Arcabas from the church of Saint Hughes en Chartreuse.
