Description

The bell tower of the church of Gaulène houses a manual carillon of 20 bells. Together with the carillons of Castres and La Drèche, it is one of the jewels in the crown of the Tarn's campanile heritage.
Every first Sunday of the month from 2 to 3 p.m. throughout the year and from 17 to 23 December at 6 p.m., a concert-visit is organised. On this occasion it is possible to discover the functioning of the keyboard "coups de poings" and to be closer to the bells.

The carillon consists of 20 bells:
- 1829: 1 bell
- 1866: 10 bells
- 2001: installation of a gift of 2 bells from 1847
- 2016-2017: 7 new bells

The 1866 bells are called "demoiselles de Louison": demoiselle because of their shape and Louison being the name of the founder. These bells are designed to be operated in a rotating flight (a complete turn on itself). This set of "demoiselles de Louison" is the largest known today in France.

A screen has been installed at the bottom of the bell tower to allow people who have difficulty climbing into the carillon to see the carillonneuse playing.
