Chapel of Cahuzaguet

Chapel of Cahuzaguet
Chapel of Cahuzaguet

Description

On the banks of the Tarn, a little lower than Les Avalats, the chapel of Cahuzaguet is a fortified rural church from the 13th century.
Visits on request
Before 1789, it was a dependency of the Chapter of Albi, which had renowned vineyards there.
François I offered Saint-Grégoire wine at the famous meeting of the Cap du Drap d'Or to the King of England, Henry VIII.
The interior is very simple with a cul-de-four choir and a wooden gallery. The font bears two faces: a rather hard male head and a thinner female head, which could be Christ and the Virgin.
Statue of Our Lady of the Angels (17th century)
Famous painting (17th century): under the cross, Albi is represented with its ramparts.
