It is an emblematic monument in the town center and was built in 1823 according to the plans of the architect Ledru. At the top of this fountain, there was a statue of "Republique". During the Second world War, this statue was hidden from the Occupying Forces by the Issoirians. But after the war ended, instead of returning the statue where it had been, it was installed in the square Rene Cassin until it was stoeln by persons unknown in March 1994.
