This village is located up the river Ligne valley on the way to the Croix de Millet pass.
Although initially part of Joannas’ parish, Rocher became independent in 1794.
In the 1960s, the district bought the castle, and turned it into a sanatorium (a tuberculosis hospital). It is now hospital to the communes of Rocher and Largentière.
An aqueduct, originally used to provide water, can be seen nearby.
The present church was built on the St Roch castle chapel in 1804. There is a beautiful stained glass window inside, the “Notre Dame des 7 douleurs” and a 17th century altarpiece.
Several hiking routes start from Rocher, one of which goes up to the statue of the Ranc Courbier Virgin. From there, you'll get a great view of the Ligne Valley, southern Ardèche and Mount Ventoux.
