Pointe San Crist extends the ancient town of Martigues to the west. Pointe de l'Île is an artificial peninsula built from 2009 to 2010, measuring 130 m long and 30 m wide. The architect of this project is Gilles Amphoux.
It is a magnificent site fitted out with water jets and fountains conducive to relaxation and strolling.
You will also be able to contemplate the giant sculpture of Bernar Venet which sits as a figurehead towards the viaduct. Named “219.5 ° Arc x 15”, it was installed in 2019. The last cities to have been able to exhibit such pieces are none other than New York, San Francisco, Beijing, Berlin, Paris or even Tokyo.
Bernar Venet is an artist who is part of the conceptual art movement, in which we try to exclude interpretations, these are works that speak for themselves. Made of corten steel, these 3 bows were made in Hungary at the Nagykőrös factory. Bernar Venet is also known for his Angles and Indeterminate Lines. The work was lent by the artist to the city of Martigues, which had the opportunity to keep it until another city claimed it. It also allows you to observe the calen.
