Pays de Bitche has a dozen peatmires of which most are protected because of the exceptional vegetation that it shelters.
A wooden walkway with descriptive panels has been created at Hanau Lake to explain the rarity and the fragility of this natural environment.
From May to September, carnivorous plants, all sorts of varieties of cranberries and gracious dragonflys can be seen. the path follows through into the wood where you can discover the main varieties of trees that grow in this region.
The path is approximately a kilometre long, has about 20 descriptive panels and is also part of Pays de Bitche Rock and Peat Nature Reserve.
