Le cincle plongeur est un oiseau brun au plastron blanc de la taille d’un merle qui vit au bord des rivières. Il se nourrit d’insectes aquatiques qu’il trouve dans les cailloux au fond du lit des rivières de montagne. Le cincle plongeur utilise une technique de pêche unique : il plonge la tête la première dans l'eau jusqu'à s'immerger complètement dans l'eau, sous laquelle il marche sur le fond à contre-courant.
