This great painting is marked in its centre by a multicoloured disc, the shape of which may resemble a CD or a spinning top launched at full speed. It sets off the black and white background next to it. Interestingly, Pantone plays with straight geometric elements that he takes a clever pleasure in mistreating, like this twisted mesh or broken lines. This taste for the raw contrast between black and white on the one hand, and the bright colours on the other, is at the heart of his work. Some elements seem to suggest a display problem: Snow on the screen, pixels, not forgetting a distortion of the image. Finally, the observer’s eye will notice the play between squares of different sizes that recall QR codes. Again, this refers us back to the world of screens.
